Metadata Librarian I
NoveList, a division of EBSCO Information Services (EIS), is looking for a new Metadata Librarian. This role supports the discovery and access of bibliographic materials by creating and editing bibliographic and authority records, constructing and enriching faceted metadata schemas, and ensuring quality control within all NoveList products.
Create, edit, and enrich bibliographic MARC records for a variety of formats and at all reading levels, maintaining quality, speed, and specified volumes consistent with NoveList standards for catalogers.
Informed by Readers’ Advisory principles, provide user-focused cataloging and analysis of genres, subjects, and appeal factors in fiction and nonfiction, improving the search and discovery experience for librarians, school media coordinators, teachers, parents, and adult and juvenile readers.
Work collaboratively with other NoveList staff in a variety of team projects for retrospective data enhancement and quality control, workflow improvements, idea generation, and incorporation of new features or special data resources.
Assist in developing the title collection for NoveList products through title identification, selection, and cataloging within an assigned area.
Assist in development and implementation of: a) improvements to internal tools and processes for managing data, and b) NoveList product enhancements.
Master in Library Science from ALA accredited program. Candidates who are in currently enrolled in a Master’s program and are within one semester of graduating will also be considered and are encouraged to apply.
At least 1 year experience in descriptive and subject cataloging and bibliographic record creation in MARC format.
Professional knowledge of cataloging procedures and principles through 1-3 years’ experience or equivalent coursework in descriptive and subject cataloging and bibliographic record creation in MARC format.
Familiarity with Readers’ Advisory principles and practice.
In-depth and broad understanding of and enthusiasm for current and popular fiction and nonfiction at adult and juvenile reading levels.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with individuals and teams across departments and the flexibility to adapt to changing objectives.
Demonstrated ability to produce a substantial volume of high-quality cataloging records weekly.
Ability to work efficiently to meet tight production deadlines.
Experience in adult or juvenile services, technical services, or readers’ advisory in a public library or school media center.
