Job Title Librarian, Public Services
Guilford Technical Community College offers more than 80 programs of study and continues to support success through innovative education, training and partnerships. The college offers associate degrees, diplomas and certificates as well as noncredit courses in professional development, personal enrichment, job training, career development and basic education.
The Library provides services to students, staff, faculty, and GTCC community members. Reporting to the Director of Library Services, this position is a member of the library management team. The Public Services Librarian coordinates and supervises staff that provide public services including library instruction and reference services, inter library loan services, circulation services, and collection development. This position assists with creating online research guides, video tutorials, and conducting library outreach.
Assists library director with overseeing operations and making improvements at all campus libraries.
Assist students, faculty, staff, and community patrons with the usage of library materials and reference tools in all formats.
Coordinate with library staff to provide information literacy sessions at all library sites and online.
Collaborate with faculty to integrate information literacy skills and library resources in the college curriculum.
Coordinate the development and maintenance of research guides and other tools for online users.
Assists with analysis and interpretation of student learning outcomes and service outcomes and make recommendations for improvement.
Plan and supervise outreach events to the college and local community, promoting the library’s resources and services, utilizing the skills and expertise of library staff and of outside speakers and presenters.
Maintain current knowledge of the research, trends, and best practices in all aspects of the library field.
Supervise, train, motivate, and evaluate assigned staff, work-study students, and volunteers.
Participate in professional development activities and promote opportunities for all staff.
Provides assistance and support for library staff at all campus libraries as needed.
Demonstrates and models the College’s employability skills: adaptability, communication, information processing, problem solving, responsibility and teamwork.
Participates in college service.
Supervising staff at multiple campus locations.
Master’s Degree in Library Science from an American Library Association regionally accredited post-secondary institution.
Doctoral Degree in Library Science from an American Library Association regionally accredited post-secondary institution.
Three years of professional experience in reference or public services in a library.
Experience developing and teaching information literacy sessions.
Experience hiring, training, and supervising staff.
Experience evaluating work performance.
Greater than three years of professional experience in reference or public services in a library.
Greater than three years of experience in an academic library at a post-secondary institution.
Greater than three years providing library services in an online format.
Experience developing activities and events to market library resources and services.
Knowledge of online research databases and print sources.
Current knowledge of library technologies and integrated library systems, (e.g. OCLC).
Excellent customer service and organizational skills.
Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work well with individuals of diverse backgrounds and ages.
