The Thomas Cooper Library (TCL) at the University of South
Carolina seeks applications for the position of Programming &
Engagement Librarian. This tenure-track faculty position reports to
the Head of Research & Instruction. This librarian will
collaborate with subject librarians, the TCL Outreach Group, campus
partners, and student organizations to develop and assess
programming which supports the aim of the Thomas Cooper Library to
foster discovery, enable collaboration, support the research
enterprise, and showcase scholarship.
To succeed in this position, the librarian will need to be
creative, outgoing, enthusiastic, and organized. They will plan,
develop, organize, implement, and assess programming that promotes
library services, spaces, and collections to U of SC students and
faculty. A primary focus will be for events which provide
opportunities for students and faculty to showcase scholarship and
activities which enable academic engagement. The goal of this
position is to cultivate a welcoming culture, build connections
between TCL and its users, and coordinate engagement efforts.
This librarian will also have liaison responsibilities to
assigned subject areas and will participate in general library
instruction and research assistance.
Minimum Qualifications: A Master’s Degree in Library/Information
Science from an ALA-accredited institution in the US or Canada.
Minimum of 2 years of research and/or instruction experience in an
academic or public library.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in library outreach and
programming. Three or more years of experience providing
instruction & research service in an academic library.
Knowledge of developments in higher education, scholarly processes
and issues facing academic research libraries.
