Lead an innovative and accomplished Massachusetts library system to continue outstanding levels of service and effective resource sharing. We are searching for an energetic, people-focused, visionary team leader to guide a diverse, membership-driven consortium of 36 public libraries in Northeast Massachusetts. We are looking for great communication skills and experience building relationships with diverse groups, both internal and external. The Executive Director wears many hats – from technology guru, to consortium bridge-builder, to facility manager, to team mentor and supporter.
he Merrimack Valley Library Consortium (MVLC) central office is located in northeast Massachusetts situated 30 miles from Boston, MA and 5 miles from the NH border. Qualifications – MLS from an ALA-accredited institution, MBA-desirable, or equivalent training and experience. Essential attributes and skills include: vision, creativity, energy and enthusiasm, superior written and oral communication skills; meaningful public library experience; flexibility, political acumen; collaborative and consensus building skills; experience in recruiting, evaluating and retaining staff; and a desire to continue the tradition of excellence and innovation within the system. Strong knowledge of strategic planning, budgeting and grant writing. Significant experience with current and emerging library technology applications, managing library operations, and a strong comfort level with servers, networks and all the challenges they bring.
Five to eight years in a management role with an automated library network, or equivalent experience preferred. Flexibility, calm under pressure, ability to pivot are all highly valued.
Duties – Overall responsibility for the planning, implementation, development, supervision and evaluation of all aspects of network services and operations; responsible for supervising and inspiring a team of 10 library professionals and coordinating relationships and communications between 36 libraries. Reports to a ten member Executive Committee.
Salary Range – The hiring range is $94,102 - $125,307 commensurate with experience.
