Reporting to the Library Director and collaborating with the full Library Staff, the Library Technician participates in the acquisition and accession process; provides technical & circulation services; provides statistical insight into catalog usage; serves as a main point of contact for Library users; troubleshoots minor technology issues; and contributes to the cataloging process.
The primary acquisitions and technical service duties of this year-round position include delivering technical and circulation services; contributing to the accession, acquisition, cataloging, and processing of books/materials, monitoring receipt of periodicals; providing statistical insights into library usage as directed and creating detailed statistical reports; maintaining stack maintenance; participating in shelf reading and inventory; tracking missing books/materials; checking stacks and change status; preparing missing status reports; shelving materials and updating displays; assisting with the administration of timely, accurate, and efficient textbook acquisitions, and the textbook buyback program and assisting with acquisition invoicing and recordkeeping.
Secondary duties include: serving as a welcoming main point of contact for Library users; providing reference and circulation services; promoting the library, its services and collections to the Academy community; developing collaborative partnerships with Library staff, the Deerfield Academy community, and others to proactively identify and recommend resources, strategies and procedures that improve the ability of the Deerfield Academy community to accomplish its goals. Assisting with the creation of publicity materials, signage, and digital displays to showcase Library services, resources, and spaces; assisting with the maintenance and oversight of the iLab makerspace, and assisting with projects in that space.
The successful candidate will possess a high school diploma (Associate’s degree is preferred), 1-3 years’ experience related to duties and responsibilities of the position, library experience is a plus. A strong desire to work with adolescent students, the ability to instruct and train students, exceptional communication and organizational skills,the ability to interact effectively with students and employees and to work independently within a team environment, strong computer skills,enthusiasm for change and the provision of innovative service, and an overall commitment to excellence and a demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion and to serving the needs of a diverse community.
